The HUUS soundproof booth requires no training or instruction. It is intuitive to use and integrates seamlessly into existing workflows.
The key here is managing expectations: the HUUS soundproof booth is not designed to promise "absolute silence." It reduces the speech level by up to -34 decibels, allowing for confidential conversations while only background noise is perceptible outside.
How to properly compare sound insulation: ISO 23351-1 instead of marketing values
When comparing soundproof booths, it's worth taking a look at the ISO standard 23351-1:2020. This standard assesses the speech level reduction of the entire product in its operational state, including active ventilation. Many manufacturers don't provide any information on speech level reduction or don't have reliable values to allow for a fair comparison.
It's important not to rely on the "additive method." This involves adding up the laboratory values of individual wall elements to obtain an overall sound reduction. However, this doesn't reflect the booth's performance in real-world use. For an honest assessment, the ISO class is therefore the most important benchmark.
Sound insulation classes according to ISO (speech level reduction)
- A+ (>33 dB): For very quiet offices and highly confidential content. The HUUS Meet reaches -34 dB.
- A (30–33 dB): Standard for high-quality soundproof booths; ideal for focused work and confidential conversations. The HUUS Call and HUUS One reach -32 dB and -30 dB, respectively.
- B (25–29 dB): A retreat for typical open-plan offices; not suitable for confidential conversations in a normal office environment.
- C (20–24 dB): Effective only with high background noise in the office.
- D (15–19 dB): Offers little protection from eavesdropping; more suitable for informal exchanges.
The decibel scale is logarithmic. An increase in sound insulation of 3 dB corresponds to a halving of the sound energy. A Class A speaker is acoustically noticeably better than a Class B speaker.
Perception: Conversation becomes about "whisper level"
As a rough guide: A reduction of 30 dB (Class A) lowers a normal conversation (approx. 60 dB) to the level of a whisper (approx. 30 dB).
