Usage time of a phone box: What you can realistically expect

A phone booth isn't a "nice-to-have" that's only used occasionally. In many offices, it becomes an essential part of the workday—for phone calls, video meetings, confidential conversations, one-on-ones, or simply 20 minutes of uninterrupted focus in an open-plan office. That's why the question of lifespan matters, and why we prefer to answer it honestly and practically.

What we've consistently seen is that a phone booth's lifespan depends less on a fixed number of years and more on how it's used and maintained. In a busy coworking space, for example, a booth may show signs of wear sooner than one in a traditional office where teams use it more carefully. That doesn't mean the booth has reached the end of its life—it simply means there's an important difference between cosmetic wear and long-term functionality.

Telephone answering machine: Noise off. Concentration on.

A phone booth is the fastest way to create more focus in the office. No renovations required. Just a dedicated space where calls can happen without interruptions, while everyone else can keep working without distractions.
With just 1 m² of space, you can bring more quiet and privacy to your office—without redesigning it.

Why leasing a phone box often makes sense

When we talk about service life, many people immediately think: "How long will the phone box last?" In other words: How long can it be used effectively without causing problems? In practice, a second aspect comes into play: "How long will the inside of the box still look like new?" These two questions are not the same.

  • Functionally, the telephone booth should reliably deliver for years what it is intended to do: provide retreat, peace and quiet, privacy during conversations, and a pleasant place for focused work.
  • Depending on usage, slight signs of wear may be visible, but these do not restrict the functionality of the box in any way.
Therefore, when discussing the following time periods, we deliberately refer to visual signs of wear on the interior fittings, not to an end of usability.

Practical guidelines: 3 years vs. 5 years

We are deliberately not providing any fanciful values here, but rather guidelines based on typical usage scenarios:

1) Usage culture: “Shared tool” or “our space”?
The more anonymous the usage, the greater the wear and tear. In teams that see the box as an integral part of their daily work and take responsibility for it, it remains in good condition longer. In very open systems (many external users, changing teams), the strain increases automatically.
2) Frequency: How many sessions per day?
A box that is used ten to twenty times a day experiences significantly more "contact points" than a box that has two to five sessions a day. More frequency means: more friction, more movement, more "small traces". This is normal – and also shows that the box provides real added value.
3) Handling: Order and clear rules
A few simple rules often make a big difference. For example:

- Drinks only with lids
- No eating breaks in the box
- Do not press bags against the inner surfaces
- Clean up briefly after the call (paper, cables, cups)

These simple precautions protect the interior – especially when the box is used frequently.
4) Maintenance & Service: If something comes up, we'll take care of it
Phone booths are part of the office infrastructure, just like meeting rooms, IT equipment, or printers. And infrastructure needs maintenance. That's why our policy is: Service and maintenance can be carried out by our HUUS technicians at any time by prior arrangement. If, after extended use, something arises that needs adjusting, checking, or improving, we are of course here to help.

What the box is ideal for: typical use cases in the office

A phone booth proves its worth not in theory, but in the recurring situations that arise in every modern office. Typical uses include:

  • Phone calls and video calls without distracting colleagues in the room
  • Confidential conversations (HR, feedback, customer issues, internal coordination)
  • One-on-ones and quick check-ins when meeting rooms are occupied
  • Interviews (job applications, internal discussions) without the "room lottery"
  • Focus periods when you really need quiet for 30–60 minutes
  • Concentrated work in an open-plan office without completely switching off
  • The crucial point: A booth not only relieves the person inside, but also the team outside. Less background noise, less eavesdropping, fewer interruptions.

What improves in the office when the box is actually used?

The HUUS One is the pragmatic solution: set it up, plug it in, and use it. When a HUUS phone booth is well integrated into the office concept, we see the following effects in practice: More peace and quiet in the room: Calls move out of the open space, and the noise level decreases. More focus: The person in the booth can work, and the team outside also remains focused. More privacy: Confidential topics can be discussed without anyone "accidentally" overhearing. Less pressure on meeting rooms: Small group discussions no longer block meeting rooms. Better collaboration: Fewer annoying interruptions, clear communication. Greater satisfaction: Those who can work with focus experience the workday differently. Especially in open-plan setups, this often determines whether employees are satisfied and productive in the office.

Cost-effectiveness: Why a telephone box quickly pays for itself

We don't see phone booths as furniture, but as a productivity tool. In a typical usage scenario, we often see that the investment can pay for itself within the first 6–12 months – through increased productivity, fewer sick days (since less noise also means less stress), and higher employee satisfaction.

It's important to note: This isn't a guarantee for every situation, but a realistic timeframe if a booth is actually used and doesn't end up as "decoration" in the hallway. The effect occurs when the team accepts the booth as a standard solution and it becomes a daily tool.

Features/details that matter in everyday life

In everyday practice, buzzwords don't matter; what counts is the feeling after the call: Was it quiet? Was I able to speak with focus? Was it pleasant, even after an hour? And: Did I feel that my conversation remained private?

HUUS phone booths in the office are designed precisely for this purpose: They are intended to create a clear retreat without requiring extensive renovations or replanning of spaces. A good booth is not complicated but easy to use, so users can quickly find their way around while the rest of the office can continue working undisturbed.

Everyday service: We remain available.

A phone booth becomes part of your daily routine. That's why it's crucial that you're not alone if you have questions or notice something amiss. Our HUUS technicians are always available for service and maintenance – pragmatic, solution-oriented, and with a focus on your ongoing operations. Costs & Options: You can find prices and options in our datasheet.

Delivery, setup and operation – these are things you should plan for when leasing.

Even with leasing, you need to consider the actual costs: delivery, assembly, and potential relocation.

HUUS delivers throughout the EU and ships from Lithuania.
For operation, you only need a 230V power connection; a 5-meter cable is included. The boxes have felt-covered, height-adjustable feet to adapt to uneven floors.

Usage matters – our conclusion

With very high usage (e.g., coworking), the first signs of wear and tear are often visible on the interior furnishings after about 3 years – in a carefully used office, more likely after about 5 years. Therefore, what matters is not so much how long it lasts, but how intensively it is used. And when service or maintenance is needed: Even outside the 2-year warranty period, our HUUS technicians will take care of it at any time by arrangement.
